May – Is it Spring?

Alaska and home! We had melting snow and ice, then rain, then even slower melting… and finally now it’s May, so it’s snowing! I don’t want to talk about it. I might as well not unpack those shorts and sandals from Arizona and Mexico.

I haven’t found anyone who can remember any spring lasting this long! And some of us have lived here more than sixty years! I think I’ll cry. My lake hasn’t even started melting yet and usually it’s all water by now.  We should be taking off our studded snow tires, thinking about going camping, starting gardens, taking out our sea kayaks… heck, even worrying about filling in potholes and swatting mosquitoes would be better than this!  I guess I should just stretch out and build a fire in the fireplace today, watch some old black and white movie and figure this is the good old days.

But last night I enjoyed a fabulous luxury! It was the Season Finale in Homer of the Uncorked gourmet dinner series, and I am so delighted I went.  We were served seven courses of seafood trios, all small bites of yummy, each served with an accompanying wine. It was unbelievable and I’ll paste the menu below. I shared it with some lovely people, too.  It is the first time in the United States I’ve ever had an evening meal that lasted 3 1/2 hours!
